Luke Davis

Luke Davis is a talented young Jazz drummer who has already made a name for himself in the Jazz community.

Luke has been under the direction of Tim Metz, a local, well known jazz drummer in the Sacramento area for over 10 years. His passion for jazz is unmatched. Luke is not only a part of An Octave Above but just recently started his own band by the name of Cloud Shine, an up and coming funk band! Time will tell where this amazing young drummer will go.

A founding member of An Octave Above Jazz Trio, Luke is a true inspiration for all those he plays with, and his passion for Jazz is contagious. With his talent and dedication there is no doubt that Luke Davis will continue to be a pride and joy of An Octave Above for years to come.

Max Urquhart

Max Urquhart is a highly talented and accomplished jazz pianist, best known for his work as a founding member of An Octave Above Jazz Trio.

Currently attending Sac State University, Max Urquhart is pursuing a degree in Jazz Studies under the direction of the amazing faculty at Sac State. Having only picked up jazz piano in 2020, Max is continuing to reach higher and higher every year.

In 2021 Max co-founded An Octave Above with Joshua Cortez, and Luke Davis. Very quickly the band gained a reputation for their innovate approach to the language of Jazz. Max continues to be a highly prized member of the band and continues to inspire all whom he plays with.

Joshua Cortez

Joshua Cortez is a talented trumpeter and one of the founding members of An Octave Above Jazz Trio.

In 2021 Joshua founded An Octave Above with Max Urquhart, and Luke Davis. Joshua first picked up a trumpet in the 5th grade playing in his elementary school rock band. Since then, under the guidance of Mr. Clyde Quick, and Maxwell Kiesner, Josh has worked his way up to performing with the Daytona State Jazz Ensemble, Sal Manning Trio, and the Sanford Jazz Ensemble.

Despite his love of music, Josh also has a fascination with aviation and has decided to pursue a degree in Aeronautical Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. While he is currently studying to become a professional pilot, Joshua still finds time to play music with his fellow band mates in An Octave Above when he is home.
